PURPOSE

The sustainability of global issues such as energy, environment and food, known as SDGs, is being discussed worldwide. By contrast, we do not hear any concerns about the sustainability of culture. However, to continue to weave and develop culture, musicians have to practice extensively from childhood, along with potential risks of developing physical and mental problems.
Eventually, in the course of practicing to create music with full of creativity of musicians, many of them have been suffering from serious injuries that sometimes terminate their lives as artists. Unfortunately, such problems are not yet solved.
Nevertheless, all over the world, there are still no systematic opportunities for musicians to learn how to use their bodies and practice effectively and efficiently, so that they can make the best use of their bodies and minds.

In sports, we can claim with certainty that the sport has been evolving year by year, as represented by the breaking of Olympic records. This progress is supported by various disciplines such as sports science, nutrition, training and coaching. By contrast, what about music performance? Obviously, it may not make sense to compare the performance of past and present artists.
However, from a different perspective, we can consider "evolution" as "being better at displaying creativity". In sports, training and technologies have been developed for throwing various pitches in the ball-throw and performing complex gymnastic skills, allowing for a wider variety of performances compared with 100 years ago. However, it is still unclear whether the problem of the "ceiling effect," in which performers suffer from an inability to display their creativity even after extensive practice, is going to be solved. The bottleneck behind this is that scientific research on musical performance has not been systematically performed, unlike sports science.

Physical education that can bring about synergy with art education is essential to achieving sustainable development of musical culture. The aim of art education is to acquire "musical grammar" that converts the symbols and text characters of musical scores into the desired sensory experience of hearing it in a certain way, and to this end, we cultivate knowledge, interpretation, sensibility, and aesthetic sense. Meanwhile, the aim of physical education is acquisition of "physical grammar," which includes ways to use the body, what to pay attention to, and practice methods.
In other words, while artistic expression asks "What kind of expressions shall I create?", physical education asks "How are those expressions produced through the workings of my mind and body?" A mechanism where these two work together seamlessly and bring about coevolution will concretely realize the creativity inherent in each artist and is essential for breaking through their limitations.

MISSION
We provide a system that clarifies and supports the learning of optimal ways to use the mind and body and practice that are needed to create the musical expression that performers envision. As a result, we aim to help performers break through the "ostensible limits" that they have assumed to be their own limits by reducing the huge amount of time spent on repetitive practice, etc., to allow them to concentrate more on exploring and deepening their expression. Our mission is to carry out research, development, and education to bring forward performance and teaching, from the heretofore physical stage to the stage of expression.

WHAT WE DO
1. Elucidate mechanisms
Dynaformics is a field of study for clarifying the optimal ways to use the mind and body and practice methods that are needed to create musical expressions. One could also say that it is the field of study that will solve the mechanisms of the body and the brain, which converts expressions into workings of the mind and body. To this end, co-creation among various fields of study, including neuroscience, biomechanics, experimental psychology, acoustics, robotics and HCI is essential. Through such an interdisciplinary approach, we can develop new methods of practice and teaching to break through the limits of creativity that can't be broken through conventional practicing alone.
2. Expand into education
If "quantity" of practice is important, there is no need for research or education. However, if "quality" of practice is important, then we will need a physical education mechanism in order to improve it.
As an educational platform for performers, we offer a mechanism comprised by PEAC and four programs.
